Days

This series is the second part of my experiments with monochromes and limited color palettes, this time focusing on capturing the effects of natural light. Each scene takes place in a different part of my college home. During my last few months living in New Orleans, I enjoyed giving special attention to these simple but meaningful locations, and using unrealistic colors to transmit my emotion to the viewer.

Do Not Disturb

This piece tries to capture the moment right in between sleep and wake, when you can still remember what you’ve been dreaming about. The setting here is my bedroom in my college home, where I never closed my curtains because I loved waking up to natural light. The film Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspired the composition of this piece. Elements of reality (my iphone charging) are combined with elements of my imagination (my childhood dog).

UV 10

Sometimes a cement backyard can feel like paradise. Here, I used saturated yellow and pink tones to convey how it felt to soak up the New Orleans sun during peak UV. A special thanks to my roommate and favorite tanning buddy, Carly, for being my model!

Porch Swing

My favorite quiet corner of my college home. A swing and colorful window shutters are traditional elements of any house in New Orleans, and I loved how my house had them too. While I only lived there for four years, details like this made me feel like a true NOLA resident.
